  • 30 instructors taught 15,438 lessons
  • 98% made a positive change in diet behaviors
  • Graduates saved an average of $6 monthly in food purchases
  • Fiber Consumption improved by 45%
  • Fruit intake improved by 83%
  • Vegetable intake improved by 43%
  • Dairy intake improved by 42%

2008 Youth Impacts:

  • 24 instructors taught 4,852 lessons
  • 17,237 youth participated in school-based and summer lessons
  • 93.3% of participants report eating more of a variety of foods since the class began
  • 3,467 campers learned about nutrition in 100 summer camps
  • 4,570 hours of nutrition education were delivered
  • 250 partnerships were formed to offer camping opportunities
  • 1,162 volunteers provided assistance for a total of 9,510 donated hours
  • $109,181 was donated by local partners to support summer programs

2008 WV Nutrition Network Impacts:

  • Network membership has grown to include 15 organizations
  • Money was secured to develop a Network website, http://www.wvnutrition.org/
  • The Pick a Better Snack social marketing campaign, designed to increase fruit and vegetable consumption, was promoted statewide
    • 960 radio commercials wre aired on 48 stations statewide
    • Six billboards were displayed in five media markets
    • Nine spotlight events were conducted statewide
    • 25,000 marketing materials were distributed statewide
